Stitching Blogger's Question of the Week July 9

How do you balance your stitching time with your other obligations
such as work, household chores, etc.?

Sometimes I wish the world would go away so I could just stitch in peace for as long as I'd like,  sometimes for only a few minutes so I could just finish that last bit.
Since that's not always possible, I try to split my day into two parts, morning and evening.
I complete my morning chores, and then give myself an hour to work on a piece,  go back and work on some more obligations and then have some time in the evening.

Next to that, I always have work ready so that I can take a few stitches or sew at my machine and make some progress,  little by little.  There's lots of moments during certain chores where's there's a waiting time, like waiting  for some cleaning product to to it's thing or while cooking, for example, when I can take a few stitches.  It doesn't sound like it's worth it, but in my experience it really ads up!

Of course, it doesn't always work out the way you plan, but that's what rainy day Sundays are for - to grab some comfy socks, a hot mug of tea, and settle down to a stretch of stitching...
it all balances out in the end!

That's what I do, get everything done in the morning, so I can knit or stitch with a clear conscience. Then after dinner, it's my time again, unless of course, children's needs call. Love it when I can get a good stretch of uninterrupted crafting

Hi Miss 376!

Yep! isn't it wonderful that time when you can just sit and stitch and relax? Wonderful!

What work or household chores??? LOL! I do have to sit quite a bit as I have a chronic illness and must admit that it is an advantage for my stitching or quilting. :) I do what I can each day in the house and always take time to cook. I love to cook. But I do have to admit that I spend about half my day doing my hobbies. Now I will be switching back and forth this evening between sewing and ironing clothes. Oh, I love ironing too. Hope you did not pass out about that as most people think I am nuts when I say that. :)

Hugs ~

It is hard sometimes. When I worked full-time, I had a cleaning lady that cleaned my house 3 days a week. So when I came home, I was free to spend time with the kids and SEW! Quilting is my stress reliever!! Now that I am a stay-at-home mom, somehow I don't think hubby would understand if I hired a cleaning lady!!! So my house is not perfect, my kids are happy and I get to sew! I just try to do everything early of a morning and then spend the rest of the day with the kids and quilt!

Hey Heidi!
I too have a chronic back problem that doesn't allow me to do much either - but whatever I can do is always peppered with breaks of handwork. I had to laugh when you said you love to iron! It's not crazy at all - while ironing is not on the top of the list, I do seem to have a thing for washing dishes! Love it! Must be a thing with soapy suds or something...lol!
So there you go - you're not nutty! A good nutty, like a Ben & Jerry's kind of nutty! lol!....LOL!

Hi Kristie!
You are so right about not having to have a perfect home and spending time with the kids! ALthough I've never had a cleaner before (but sometimes dream about it) I've always felt a home should be lived in, not be a show room. Even in my handwork there are intentional (and non-intentional) imperfections that make the work more interesting and fun. it seems to me you have a good balance there!

I am another one who does all of my "chores" in the morning and then I get to play in the afternoon. DH comes home for lunch so I keep a time line with his arrival. Supper is the only thing that interrupts the late afternoon and I am slowly doing away with that! LOL Love your blog. :-)
